Default Timer/sensor not working
Brand: Whirlpool
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Whirlpool dryer that dries clothes, but the timer isn't working. I believe that it has some type of moisture sensor also, in addition to the timer. I can set the time, and push the start button and it starts, but I need to stop it manually by opening the door. When I turn the dial to 15 minutes, and a start the dryer, the dial never turns, so the dryer just keep going.

Is there something other that the timer that could be the problem? How difficult is it to change the timer? Do I need to call a repair person? or should this be a remove and replace type of repair?

Kent

If you are using the auto dry there are sensor that make the time advance.

If the sensor is faulty the time will not move.

Try the dryer on timed dry.

On the timed dry setting the timer should move.

If it does then you have a problem in the auto dry cycle.
Can you please supply your model number?

I tried the 'timed dry' and that didn't do anything different. The dial didn't turn and so I needed to open the door to stop the dryer.

The model number is GGQ8858HQ1

Common problem;
the timer is a simple clock motor that turns the cycles on the dial. I replace that motor when I have this situtaion, how ever a home owner does not have access
to a timer clock motor. However, the best thing for you to do is replace the timer itself, they are reasonably priced THE PART # IS PRINTED ON THE BACK OF THE TIMER. BETTYBOOP

Here is a link to your dryer model GGQ8858HQ1.

If the timer is not moving on the time dry cycle you will need a new timer.

Here is the timer.
