Red face Thermal cut-off going out
Brand: Sears
Model Number: 110.64962300
Age: More than 10 years

Sears electric dryer, model 110.64962300 was not heating; the thermal cut-off was bad. Replaced with kit (279816) FSP Appliance Care product. Replaced both the thermal cut-off and thermostat. Dryer worked well for about 15 minutes, then the thermal cut-off went out again. Check dyer vent for blockage, lint, inside the cabinet. Any suggestions?

Did you also replace the overload thermostat on the heater housing, comes with the fuze kit. Maybe you replaced the cycling thermostat with the overload thermostat.
Temporarily short fuze and check output duct temperature and post.

I replaced both parts in the kit (part 279816); the parts were changed out on the heater box - sears part # 3390291 (illus # 48) Thermostate 250 F and sears part # 3977394 (illus # 47) respectfully. Part number 3977394 failed (resistance or continuity?) test. I have not replaced sear parts #'s 3392519 Thermal Fuse (ills # 59) or 3387134 Thermostat (illus 42). As suggested, I shorted part 59 - Thermal fuse - I hope this was the one you reference to be shorted out - the output duct temperture right at the exhaust was only 70 F. I tested the output duct temperture with part 59 shorted and not shorted and still 70 F. Question from me, is, did I temp short the right part? If so, what next? Thanks

Look in partselect for the exact location of the thermal fuze, just short it temporarily to get heat. If still no heat, you will need a meter to check things.

I also have a (Sears) Kenmore Elite - King Size, model number 110.64962300. The damn thing is not getting hot either. It is tumbling and the back vent blows out cold air, that's all I really know. I don't know a lot about home appliances, but don't really have the money to call out a repair man. Can anyone help me with this. I have tools and am mechanically inclined, I just don't know where to start.

Thank you for any help that you can provide.

Don

I recently was at a customers house, and replaced her thermal fuse, and she called me back, and said it was not heating. I put the a new thermal fuse back in, and everything is Ok. You could just have a bad thermal fuse. It has never happened beforeto me, but where these parts are being made, the quality is not always there. So replace it again, and you should be fine. Hi guys,

I have replaced the thermal fuse and it is still not getting hot. Do you guys think that I should now try to replace the thermostat?
