How does one check to see if a heating element is shorting out?

I would like to test before I waste $50 on a part that might not be the problem.

Thank you.

Un plug dryer, remove rear panel, the silver heater is on your right as you look at the back. if you have a two piece heater box, remove 2 little hex head screws, and un plug the wires and lift off the bottom section. Turn it over and check all the coils for burned in two coils or any damage.
If you have a one piece heater box, unplug the wires, remove 2 phillips screws from under lint filter cover on the top, raise and support the top, remove the small hex head screw that holds the heater box at the top, and remove. Remove 1 hex screw, and pull out element, check for damage. Bettyboop
