Red face It Takes 3 times as long to dry a load
Brand: Roper
Model Number: REX4664K617
Age: More than 10 years

It is taking 3 times longer to throughly dry a load.
The drum is tumbling and the heating element is on.
The filter and vents are clean.

Could it be a bad heating coil? or maybe a bad thermostat?
Which part should I possibly replace?

Thank You for any advise

Howard

Unhappy

Hi Everybody..
Thanks for all your support.
I changed the heating coils but I still have the same problem.

There is a high limit thermostat that connects to the heating coil.Could that be bad??????????

I noticed also that there is a thermal cut of attached to the heating element housing..What does that do?????

The clothes do dry,but it does not consistantly seem like the heating temperature is hot enough.

I have the same problem with a kenmore.

Heat just wouldn't stay on to heat up the drum.

I've replace the usual suspects, thermstats, now I'm focusing on the select switch-can be confusing at times.

If you think the heating system works fine, then next move to the lint chute on your 10 year old dryer. Take out the the screws under the lint filter on the top.
Remove the back cover, and remove the 4 screws at the bottom of the lint chute
and pull it out and down. Take it outside and flush it throughly with your garden hose. Then vacuum out around the blower wheel. Then reinstall and test performance. the biggest drying problem in dryers

Red face

Hello Everbody:

I chave changed heating coil and vacuumed out lint duct, shoot and fan.It did have a lot of lint build up.

I ran small loadon auto.

Clothes dried about 99%.Much better than before.

I still feel that dryer should be staying hotter longer.

I have not chaged any thermostats yet.I have a high temp thermostat in mind?

The hi-limit is not your problem, it does nothing to dry your clothes, it keeps from burning out your element. Without it, the operating thermostat could go bad and heat your clothes to 200 degrees. Take off your operating thermostat,(by blower housing) and read l-145 or l-150, or what ever it says, and buy a new one, and read the temp on hi-limit and buy one of those, also. Now you should get the origonal performance back.If when you took off the lint chute, and the foam seals were damaged, they must be replaced, or air will get sucked in and spoil the proper air flow. Allways replace both thermostats!!!

Anytime your dryer runs and heats the first thing you should check is the vent if it is not venting right the clothes will not dry very well !!!!! Also if it is not venting well it will heat up much faster causing your thermostat to shut the heater down!!!! Make sure your discharge line is not crushed it may look good when you put it on but when you push the dryer back into place it may kink!!!!!!
