Default Takes 2 cycles to dry.
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: DDE 7500GAL
Age: More than 10 years

This machine has given us flawless sevice for 19 years. Wife says that recently, in the last 3 weeks, it started to need 2 possibly 3 time cycles to dry the normal load. Wife uses either Medium (Pemanent Press) or High (Cottons) settings consistantly and cleans the lint filter religously after each load is done. Need some pointers as to: (1) what to check; (2) where located and how to check any thermostat(s) and heat elements; and (3) how does one get into the machine to check them to begin with? Any and all help would be greatfully accepted as wife just brought it to my attention, is getting anxious, and, wants me to fix the problem before it gets worse and the machine stops heating altogether.

Your dryer has 2 heat elements,1 on is low heat, both on hi heat. One element is burned out. You should replace both, and both thermostats.
To open dryer, open door remove the little screws inside top door frame, lift up top, then remove the 2 screws inside front, right and left. then loosen the 2 bottom screws under front panel, remove front panel and unplug door switch.
If your dryer has a long black cover with tail pipe sticking out, remove the 10 or so screws and remove cover. Disconect belt, if your dryer has a small cover in the center of the back with 2 screws, remove them and remove the "c" clip holding the drum. Now remove the drum, and check your heating element, it looks kinda like a garbage can lid. If your belt looks bad after 19 years replace it too. Got it?

Thanks you Bettyboop for your quick response. I think I got it. I'll give it a try after I order and get the replacement parts you recommend in hand. The dryer, side by side with the matching washer, is in a specifically designed "laundry area closet" in the 1st floor main Bathroom and to work on it requires pulling the machine out of its niche effectivelly shutting off the Bathroom's intended use for the duration of the repair.
