Default Stink Smell from Dryer/Fuse Box
Brand: Inglis
Model Number: IJ80000
Age: 5 - 10 years

After my dryer has been running for 4-5 minutes, a stink smell comes out from into my laundry. If the loading is very light (say 3 T-shirts), there is no problem. However, even the load is not heavy (say 1 jean) the odor problem happens. Tried to fix the issue, I checked and cleaned the inner cabinet, the lint scree, the air-passage after the lint screen to the connecting ring (including the fan), the vent, and the exhaust hood. Unfortunatly, it doesn't work. There is no new installtion (and not newly painted) in my laundry, except a replacement of a circuit breaker in the fuse box.

When (and only when) the dryer is in running, there is very small "tick" sound comes out from the fuse box at a interval of 5 to 10 seconds). Since the fuse box is above the dryer, I cannot tell whether the dryer or the fuse box is the source of stink smell.

Do I need a new dryer or a electricity technican for the fuse box?

A lot of things stink, a description of the smell would help
Does it smell like burning fabric, burning plastic or old sneakers
Any additional info would be a good thing

You say nothing has changed except replacement of a breaker
Why was the old breaker replaced?
Who replaced it?
Do you use a different setting for the T shirts and the jeans?
Does the dryer run properly?

Turn it on, go outside and smell the exhaust from the dryer
Better yet have someone inside turn it on so they can turn it off quickly if needed
Might be a good idea to have a fire extinguisher handy, one that is certified for for electrical fires
If the smell is a lot stronger than in the house then it is probably the dryer.
If the smell is the same or less then it is probably your wiring.

I would remove the fuse box front panel and take a look but many people are a little skittish about electricity so do not do it unless you feel comfortable with this.

I do not want to scare you but
YOU POTENTIALLY HAVE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION HERE

Unlike the smell from burning fabric and plastic. Old sneakers? I'd say yes and it is a little bit fishy too. No smoke and it is not irrelating to eyes.

The breaker had to be replaced it was dead. After tripped to off-position, it cannot be switiched to on, even after removed out from the fuse box. My neighbour bought the replacement from Home Hardware and made the change for me. By smelling it, I think the smell does not come from the replaced breaker.
And I just know it the replaced breaker is for the receptacles in the kitchen not for the dryer. I wouldn't open the panel myself because it is beyond my limit.

I use the same setting (Economy) for both the T-shirts and the jean. The dryer runs normally. I checked outside, the air comes out from the exhaust hood is normal, actually pretty stong. It seems the smell is the same inside and out (but not very sure because of the strong wind).

Per advice from another web, the source of the bad smell is the torning driving belt. May be it is the time to have a new dryer. Too bad!!!!

Best Regards,
Selma

You should not have to buy a new dryer

Turn the dryer drum by hand it should have some resistance but not a lot.

Now that I know the smell, the belt overheating does make a plausible cause
They are made of fiber and rubber
It is nor a huge job to replace a belt
While you are at it you may want to give an overhaul
I would open it up, check and clean everything, replace the belt and any other parts that are worn re: drum rollers, drum seals

I have an old Inglis dryer. It ran at home for 15 years and has run at the cottage for 14 years. New is not necessarily better.
