Default Starts when turning timer without pressing start button
Brand: Sears
Age: 5 - 10 years

Dryer starts by itself when turning timer to any cycle without pushing start button. Timer does not advance so dryer will run until door is opened or timer knob is turned to off. Replaced timer and start btton with no results.

Default dryer

It is a Kenmore Elite model number 110.63952100

I was thinking there is a short maybe in the push to start button so I replaced it, along with thinking maybe the timer- timer motor was bad and not advancing the timer, but after replacing both of them I am at a loss. Maybe there is a wire that became disconnected somewhere, but I have not seen anything from just looking around.

At $150 for a service call and $400+ to replace, along with the $70 in parts I have, any help would be appreciated.

Are you using the timed cycle or the auto dry cycle?

If it the auto dry cycle that you are using it could be a problem with the sensor or the electronic board for the sensor.

Check the sensor and see if it has continuity.

If you have continuity replace the sensor.

If you don't have continuity replace the board.

For the dryer starting in any cycle without pressing any buttons it could be the motor switch contacts are welded together.

It could be the motor relay.

The contacts may be welded together.
