Default Is it the starter switch??
Brand: KitchenAid
Age: 1 - 4 years

My dryer suddenly stopped working this morning. The timer still ticks, but when I press the start button nothing happens. I opened the door and that switch still clicks when I press it, so I hope it is the starter switch (which seems easy to replace). I have removed it from the unit, but wanted an opinion before I went to the hardware store to buy another one. Thanks

Remove the two wires from the switch, tape them together and give it a try
.
If it runs, it is the door switch
If not probably the thermal fuse

You don't think it could be the starter switch? The wires are in a harness that clips into the starter switch

Yes it could also be the starter switch
I just hate replacing parts unless it is necessary, it's a waste of time and money.

Does the dryer have a drum light
Did it work before this problem and does not work now
If the answere is yes, then it is your door switch
I do not have a wiring diagram for your unit so at best it is an educated guess

Remove power from the dryer
Unplug the connector at the switch
Get a paper clip and make a jumper to go between the two contacts of the connector
And give it a try
Just make sure your jumper will not short to anything

Another way is to buy yourself a volt/ohm meter
You can get a decent digital one for under $20.00. you do not need anything fancy.
Try to get one with leads a couple feet long
If it can save you from buying one unnescessary part it has paid for itself

Then you just put the meter across the switch on the 1X resistance scale, push the switch, if it does not short (0 ohms), it is the switch.
