Default Squealing noise
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: DLB2450BDLAD
Age: More than 10 years

Shortly after being turned on dryer starts to make a squealing noise... took access panel of to check it out, sounds like its coming from the motor area. Ran it emty and didnt squeal...as soon as I put clothes back in it started again. Could this be the bearings going bad...Thanks,Mike

Yes, I would replace the bearing kit in the rear. If you are going to take the time to take the whole unit apart, replace the belt, and the idler pully wheel also. Tom ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Thanks Tom for the reply, when you mentioned a "bearing kit" is the external or internal on the motor? I havent taken it apart so far ..just looked and listend to it run. I was just looking at replacement motors and they seem to be more than what a dryer old would be worth. Thanks again for the help.

It is not the motor. Once you take the drum out, where the drum fits into is the bearing. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Ok...let me make sure were talking about the same thing. Are you talking about the bearing assembly on the backside of the drum? If so...I replaced that just last year...it shouldnt have gone bad that soon should it? When I replaced it before,it was so bad that it had worn down the bearing housing. Also I just took off the belt and turned it back on and it is still squealing

You took the belt off and turned it on, and it still squeaked? That would mean the drum is not turning, and it is just the motor. It is either the motor, or something has come loose in the blower assembly area. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
