I am having difficulty starting my dryer. It first started happening on only one section of the timer, the part I most frequently used. Now it happens anywhere on the dial. If I continue to reshut the door and try again, I'll eventually get it to start and then it works fine. A repairman told me over the phone that the timer needs to be replaced (99.9% sure). Do you agree? If so, how do I remove the knob from the timer? If I can figure this out, it's an easy repair.

Check the door switch.

With the door opened hold the switch in with your finger and turn the dryer on.

To remove the timer knob take the center cap off the knob.

At the back of the timer there is a release pin pull on it to release the knob.

Here is a link to your dryer model MDG6400AWW.
