I have a Maytag MDG6400AWW that won't start when you pull the control dial. This dryer has had this problem from day one, but has gotten progressively worse. Now the dryer will only start after you pull hte dial many times, sometimes as many as 20 or 30 times. Sometimes we have to wait a day or so to get the dryer to start.

I contacted Maytag, but they said that they cannot give any type of technical advise regarding their products.

I found a couple of posts that indicate that this problem is related to the timer. I removed the control panel facia and pulled the control dial and I noticed that pulling the control dial produces a spark, but the spark only occurs after a lot of pulls. Even when pulling the control dial produced a spark the dryer did not start.

I would greatly appreciate any input regarding this issue. I am especially interested to know if replacing the timer will fix this problem. I also would like to know how to remove the control dial and the timer.
