My WP gas dryer has a slight gas smell. I've noticed it recently during the cycle but it had always gone away after it stopped. This morning I noticed the smell again, but the dryer hadn't been used for several hours (15+). It is coming from inside the dryer and not leaking from the connection at the back as far as I can tell.

What would cause this and what part(s) fix this problem?

Sounds like your dryer gas valve is going or is bad.

If you smell gas without it being used. I would first check the fittings that connect up to the dryer. The way to do that is get a sponge, and put dish washing liquid on it, so you can get it to have bubles, and then lay the sponge on each joint, and put some foam bubles on it. If the there is a leak, you will get a buble. You can also take the front of the dryer, and check the joints in there too. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
