Default Screeching noise on starting
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: de412
Age: More than 10 years

My dryer makes a very loud screeching noise when it starts. The noise goes away after 5-10 seconds and then the dryer seems to work normally. Is this a sign that something is about to break or can I just ignore it? Is there something I should do? thanks.

could be the drum rollers or idler pulley drying up. don't ignore it, it won't get any better

Probably a belt going bad or sticking rollers. If the drum is hard to turn, this would confirm bad rollers.

i have the same noise on my frigidaire laundry center. Noise coming from ball mount and craddle assembly. It was very dirty. Took apart, cleaned. ready to put back together. Should I use any type of lubricant? If so, what do you recommend. Thanks.

Look for high temperature grease. Usually only available at an appliance store, but you can ask at auto store.

Thanks for the tip on the grease. Found some at my Napa store. Put dryer back together, works great! Have a great day.
