Cool Roper GAS dryer won't heat
Brand: Roper
Model Number: rgx5635eq2
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Roper gas dryer(lp) that simply quit heating. The day my wife reported it to me I started it up and peeked through the little hole in the lower front but there was no glow from the igniter . I remember seeing the igniter glow at times even when the gas supply was empty.
Anyway... I ordered the igniter, installed it and it didn't change a thing.
Is there a FUSE or something that I'm missing?
Thanks for any input.

Yes there is a thermal fuse. If you take the back panel off, and of course unplug the dryer. That is the big back panel, you will see about in the middle of the back of the dryer, about a foot off the floor, you will see this white piece, about an inch and a half long, by a 1/2 inch wide. Thats it. Take the 2 wires off the thermal fuse, and put the ends together, and then put a little tape on them so they don't hit metal, and plug it in, and it should work. Let me know. You can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

I followed your instructions and presto.... we're heating. I suppose I need to order one of thos thermal gadgets huh? I bought my igniter from Parts Select and will do the same with the Thermal fuse.
Thanks a bunch,

Absolutely replace that thermal fuse, personaly, I think its bad advice to suggest to people to bypass something like this because more often than not they will afterwards see it working and just leave it bypassed rather than ordering the part or while waiting for the part and not understand the urgency of replacing this particular part.

This part in particular is pretty much the only thing standing between you and your house burning down. Its a safety part thats only going to go bad if a safety problem exists.

You less likely have a thermostat thats not shutting off allowing it to overheat to the point that this thermal fuse has blown, or you more likely have lint blocking the air flow somewhere between the burner and the exhouast at the outside of your house.

This will absolutely lead to a fire if untreated, as well as exhaust gas to accumulate inside the house instead of being properly vented out. You should refuse the tempatation of trying to use this dryer with that part on particular bypassed even while waiting for the part to come in and time to replace it. You also need to solve the less obvious problem behind why this fuse blew in the first place.

Yes, you need to order one, and not run it without it. Also check your vent to the outside, and make sure it is clear. Good Job Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Default Probable Cause?

Thanks for the help you guys and I totally agree that fuses are for a reason an most anything
Trying to make a long story short... It seems that an extra table leaf from the dining room was put away on top of the gasline(flexible) therefore putting it in a pinch.
Might I presume that this was the culprit? Could that have caused the igniter or burner to overexert themselves?

May not of been helping your gas pressure any, but not likely the cause of your problem. Igniter's do go bad, and thermal fuses blow when the dryers air flow is plugged somewhere between the tip of the flame and the outside of your house. If this table leaf was also pinching the dryer vent hose as well as the gas line then the pinching off of the dryer vent hose certainly would cause that thermal fuse to possibly blow even though your operating thermostat should have turned the heat off before it got this hot. If your new thermal fuse does blow again then you likely have a operating thermostat that isn't turning off like its supposed to be doing. A bad operating thermostat is most likely your underlying problem here, or at least a good part of the problem.
