Cool Roper Dyer Barrell Slipping
Brand: Roper
Model Number: RES7646KQ2
Age: 5 - 10 years

I noticed the barrell not moving but I can hear the motor? after a few moments it would start to roll. The dyer was making a sqweeking sound as soon as it started to roll? I'm thinking the belt but a friend said the wheel? any thoughts?

Here is a link to a parts breakdown
Whirlpool RES7646KQ2

Check to see if something is jamming the tub - bra wires are notorious for this.
If all looks OK. You will have to open it up
Before opening it though I would rotate the drum a few times so you get a feel for how much force it takes. Then after you overhaul it you can check again to see if you made a difference,

Odds are you will be replacing the belt - probably all cracked
Check rear and idler rollers for slop/wear. Also check their shafts.
Check the tub's front plastic glides for wear
Check the tub's sealing felts
Replace any worn or suspect parts
Clean the tub where the belt rides
Give the interior a good cleaning especially the motor
Clean and check you vent system while you are at it

You should then be good for another 5/10 years

Baby blue, the best thing to do is buy the kit. It comes with 2 rollers, 1 idler pully, which I am sure has disintegrated, and 1 belt. Take's care of it all. The kit is about $25.00. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
