Default Roper Dryer won't shut off.
Brand: Roper
Model Number: REX 6634 RQ0
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi! I have a Roper dryer that won't shut off. The timer will not advance in any mode. It shuts off when manually turned but will not shut off by itself. I replaced the timer and that did not solve the problem. Any suggestions???
Thanks!!
Joshua

I could not find a wiring diagram for your unit so the below includes some guessing.

You said "The timer will not advance in mode"
Does this mean it will not advance in any mode including timed dry.

Timed dry and permanent press usually use different timer contacts and circuit paths to run the timer motor.

Timed dry is normally direct through one set of timer contacts
Permanent press usually uses the heater voltage so it is dependant on the thermostat.

Here is the link to your parts breakdown
Whirlpool REX6634RQ0

Normally the permanent press circuit to the timer motor has a resistor. This cuts the 220 volts down to 120 volts for the motor, I looked at your breakdown but could not find it. It is usually in the control console and it is not uncommon for it to burn out.

Do you have the wiring diagram?

If you are using the dryer on automatic cycle, it could very well be the internal bias thermostat, the one in the back with 4 wires coming to it. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Thank you for your replys. After I installed the new timer it still would not work. I checked the wiring to make sure it was getting power and saw that it runs to the heating element. I checked that out and found a piece of a coil had broken off and was making contact with the element chasis. It was still heating but after I removed it then the dryer started working correctly. Today I put in the old timer and it still works. Could it have been that piece was shorting out the timer? I also cleaned off the sensors. They weren't too dirty but thought it wouldn't hurt. Do any of you think it was the sensor or the heating element? Just wondering for future reference if this happens again. I am returing the timer and ordering a new element. Thanks!!
