Default Remove Motor Clips...?
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDG3000AWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

I got a new motor to replace the old one which burned out - easy. I disassembled the dryer - easy. Trying to get the retaining clips off of the motor assembly - hard!! I've tried everything short of breaking them off but of course I don't want to do that.. What's the trick??

Take a large screwdriver and on one side of the upside down U press down and outward at the same time.

They are a spring type clip so it does take some force.

Sheila- do we put the screw driver on the top of that inverted U clip, like in the litte dent near the edge before it turns down, or on the piece that's at the bottom, which looks to me like it might break!

Thanks,
Bebes

You put the screwdriver on the inverted u where it hooks on the motor mount.

It sounds like you got the right spot.

Sheila - I'd talked to a technician who'd said to be careful, cuz it was a knuckle buster of a job, so once I found out where to use the tool, and once I got over the idea that I wasn't going to bust myself up, I decided to use a sharp cold chisel instead of a screwdriver. That way I felt certain it wouldn't slip off, plus it gave me a better grip. The first few times I was just nervous, but then it slipped off with a fair amound of ease.

Thanks for your help. I thought this idea might help others, so I posted that too.

Bebes
