Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDE4806AYW
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi, I am at wits end....my new dryer has maybe 10 hours on it . When I went to turn it on the other day it does nothing. It stays on the pause cycle meaning the pause light flashes. I called a few repair places and they told me thats the wrong model number, I double checked it. I took off the bottom front and cleaned all the lint real good now I'm at a loss. Could someone please direct me as to what to check next . I have a friend looking at it and he is at a loss too. The light comes on when you open the door and the dial turns but when you try to start it ,it just stays on pause and flash's. The door was switched to open on the other side awhile ago, just thought I'd tell ya that. Thank you in advance fo any suggestions.

What you need to do is not mess with it. Because the product is under warranty. If you mess with it you could void the warranty. Call the people you bought it from, and let them send out a technician. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Thank you for your reply. I called maytag and it seems as thou my warranty is over, I just never really used the dryer. Would you believe maytag does NOT have any service people out where I live, needless to say I am NOT happy. So I need to fix this myself so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is what I want you to do. Unplug the dryer, and take the front panel off, and then lay down on your stomach, and look in the very back on the bottom, and you will see the heater housing. On the housing there is a thermal fuse, that will cut the whole unit off. There is a thermostat on the housing, and a thermal fuse. The thermal fuse sits off the housing. What you can do is take the 2 wires off the thermal fuse, and put them together, and put a little tape around it, so they don't hit metal, and then plug the dryer in and see if it comes on. If it does, replace the thermal fuse. The part # is 40113801. If it does not come in then it could be the control board. If the thermal fuse does not work, get back to me, and let me know if you have a meter. You can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com. Tom

Here is a service maual, tech sheet and parts breakdown

Maytag MDE4806AYW

You have probably tried this but if not, manually operate the door switch, does the interior light go on/off. Push the door switch all the way in (light off) and try it.

Turn your breaker on/off slowly a couple times.

When you say that it does not tumble, do you mean, you don't hear the motor running at all. It is dead? Or, do you hear the motor running, but the drum does not turn. You can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com

Ok, Like that is imposible. If the belt is on the drum will turn. Check and make sure the belt did not come off the idler pully. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
