Talking Dryer will not start & not sure why
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 66814690

I have a kenmore model # 66814690. when you press & hold the start button, the tumbler turns for several revolutions but it wont continue to run on its own after the button is released. After several seconds there is an audible click and then the button deactivates. Is this indicitive of a relay, thermal switch or motor problem?

Frist things frist what is a COP ICE MAN. Anyway it sounds like the motor is not getting past the speed to kick out the start windings. And the click sound could be the motor overload switch kicking in or out. Dose the motor make a louder noise then before ?????

Coppiceman from Steven Kings the Talisman, I'm a cop... No noticable difference in the sound of the motor

I still think the motor is not getting up to speed. could be the motor bearings are back, when you push in the start button that sends voltage right to the motor, when the motor gets up to speed it kicks out the start windings, and the start switch is taken out of the circuit. the fact that when you release the start switch the motor stops makes me believe that there is a drag on the motor. motor, rollers, or front glides or a build up of lint in the motor keeping the start winding switch from kicking out

Sounds like the motor centrifical switch will not switch over to run. You can stick 115 volts directly to pins 4& 5 to do this. You will need a cheater cord to do this. Check schematic.
