Default Old Gas Ge Dryer No Flame
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: DDG5380VA
Age: More than 10 years

Hi everyone
I have through alot of posts. You are very helpful.
My old GE Gas Dryer still turns and starts fine Problem is there is no heat.
I checked in compartment door and igniter is not glowing.
It was simple enough so I removed the entire burner assembly and flame sensor.
Figured good time to clean all the accumulated debris out and claen up burner assembly.
I am not very good with testing resistance or continuity but am perfoming some checks on the various parts.
The Igniter was cracked on ceramic part, When removed it disintegrated (fell apart). I know I will have to replace it.

My question is Do I need to replace the holder bracket also? It appears ok but seems to have some type of ceramic coating on it where holder grasps the igniter. When testing bracket terminals with igniter removed should there be any elctrical check done?

Also, How do install the new igniter without breaking it? Are they really fragile or was mine just cooked?

Any help or suggestions concerning the repair would be appreciated.
I have the flame sensor out currently should there be continuity or resistance when probing the terminals? Should I check Coil resistance while assembly is out?

It is obvious I am no pro. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Denise

The ignighter is a little stronger than a piece of toast, don't even bump it just replace it extra- very- gently. or you'll break it and have to buy another, and another.
