Exclamation Not Heating Serial # ICE1418963
Brand: Inglis
Model Number: IC85500
Age: More than 10 years

Hi I'm new here and don't know much about dryers, I've located the heating element and visually it looks fine I was hoping to find it burned out so then I would know how to fix this machine, I don't really know where to start, I have a multimeter but don't know much about using it ? Is there anywhere to see some kind of diagrams or pictures of this old dryer. Type DR-5 On the parts search I typed in the model # and it couldn't find anything ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks

The first thing that you should check is the voltage coming to the dryer.

You should have 240 volts at the plug.

If you don't one of the two fuses that runs the dryer is opened and will have to be replaced.

If there are no break in the element then there is nothing wrong with it.

Check the wiring.

Check the connections on the block where the cord is connected.

Check the wires at the motor switch.

Check the wire at the timer.

Is your dryer a Canadian model?

Thumbs up 17 yr. old Inglis Dryer

First I must appoligize for not getting back to you yesterday Tuesday, I stayed up very late researching my problem on your forums, and after reading about fifty
similar cases ( not heating ) I had learned how to check for continuity with my multimeter at all the good places and sure enough I found one that didn't work, and went to the whirlpool site and found that the original Thermal Cut-Off was a troublesome unit that they put out a " Service Kit " part #279769 which also includes the " High Limit Thermostat " as well as the Thermal Cut-Off, and much to my surprise I was able to purchase the kit about three miles down the road in a small appliance repair shop, and about 20 minutes later I had it back together and it worked better than original. ( the new kit had the thermal cut off set about fourty degrees hotter than original, honestly does work much better with the extra heat . So Thank You Very Much for all your great Information.
Many Thanks Rod
