Default No Power after replacing timer
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDE6400AYW
Age: 1 - 4 years

Electric Maytag Atlantis Dryer.

Starting the dryer had been finicky for months and finally the nob snapped off trying to start the dryer.

I replaced the timer today. After replacing the timer, dryer will not attempt to start.

Verified:
good Power: 240 in and split to 2 -120V supplies
120V at the timer

two thermal fuses - good continuity at both
good working door switch confirmed.

Any other ideas where to look before returning the new timer?

Thank you for your help.

When you checked the thermal fuse that is mounted to the element housing, did you ohm it out, or check for voltage? I would ohm it out. I seriously doubt that the new timer is bad. Yea it might be plastic, but, just make sure the harness is in all the way. I also would ohm out the door switch. When ohming out, take a wire off the switch, and the fuse when checking. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Thank you for the fast and informed reply Tom.

Did I ohm the thermal fuses out? Yes. Digital multimeter went to 0.0000 from 0L when I tested them. I think I had the lead wires off of them, but I will retest tonight.

I completely removed the wires from the door switch. 3 connectors. I ohmed it to. When the switch is open and connecting 1 and 2, or 1 and 3, it read 0.0000. Closing the switch changed the reading to 0L.

Should the timer make noise when in the ON position, but the dryer isn't running? My old timer would. Eventually the buzzer would go off. This timer makes no noise at all.

Your website looks very useful.
