Default No heat
Brand: Amana
Model Number: lea60aw
Age: 5 - 10 years

Dryer has no heat. checked heater eliment. 10ohms. sounds to low for heating eliment. continuity through limit fuses and thermostat ok out of dryer. If the resitance is to low will it pop the limit fuse? will the fuse reset or is it once and done? all ducts clean and motor. Just no heat.

Hi,

No, the limit fuse will open (pop) if it gets to hot.

Once and it's done.

Are you sure there is the correct voltage to the dryer?

I have the same problem. My Amana electric dryer quit heating. I checked the heating element (10 ohms), the fuse and the thermostat on the heating element have continuity. The power is OK too (230W). What else could it be?

You both need a meter to check things. As a servicer, I would be blind without one.

Default Things I've tried

The power coming from the wall is 230W combined. Both sides show +/-115. The heating element itsself shows 10.1 ohms. All I did was check capacitance for the fuse and thermostat on the heating element. I checked the temp switch on top to make sure the setting for 'normal heat' worked properly. (I set the switch to different positions and checked capacitance for pairs of terminals per the wiring diagram).
The only thing else I know to do is check the cycling thermostat. It has 5 wires running into/out of it, so I'm lost at this point.
I also took heating element to a tech and he tested all components too.

Power is 230W. Each side is 115 +/-. Heating element 10.1 Ohms. Capacitance thru fuse & thermostat on heating element. Had tech confirm all this as well. Tested temp switch for capacitance per wiring diagram. (When set to regular, had capacitance thru BU-RD.)
Don't know how to test cycling thermostat mounted by vent motor. (It has 5 wires in/out) Lost at this point.

I thought from the post it sounded like they had meters..

Had a tech test the heating element (and the fuse and thermostat that are mounted on it). He confirmed the same readings. Power into the dryer is 115+/- on each side and 230W total. Checked for capacitance between BU-RD when the temp switch is set to normal heat (per wiring diagram) and it was ok.
The cycling thermostat has five wires running in/out. I don't know how to test it, but I've done everything else I know to do. Also, don't know if there's another fuse beside the one on the heating element.

For a dryer to heat, you need current from the timer, to travel on large red wires to the thermal fuse top of heater box then red wires thru control thermostat to the hi-limit thermostat, to the element , the other wire from the element goes down to the motor safety switch and back up to the the wiring harnes. So you need, timer, thermal fuse, two thermostats, motor safety switch, to make the heater work. leave one componet out and no heat Bettyboop.
P.S. correction red wires is a whirlpool I don't know the color of amana wires but all dryers work the same
