Default New heating element, now TOO hot
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LER7648KT2
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hello, recently my dryer stopped heating. I troubleshot everything and found the heating element was bad ( burnt, separated coils) and replace it with a new factory part. Immediately I noticed 2 things.
1. When I turned the dryer setting dial I heard the heating element ( I assume) power on.
2. The dryer dried everything VERY hot.
This was yesterday.
Now the dryer will not turn on, ( I assume the thermal fuse has tripped) but I can still hear a light humming when the cycling knob is turn to the desired cycle.
Could a thermostat have also been bad, and this is why the heating element went out to begin with, or was there a step I should have done when replacing the heating element that I was unaware of???

Also The heating element will turn on even with th door to the dryer open, but only when turned to the timed cycle.

Sounds Like You Have A Bad Motor Switch, A Safety Featcher Stops The Heating When Motor Stops, To Test Unplug Dryer From Power Supply,
Unplug Motor Plug, Touch Probes Between The Terminals On The Motor
Where The 2 Large Red Wires Go On Motor, If You Get Continuty, Switch Is Bad. Buy New Switch ,make Sure You Put The Wires Back On Motor To New Switch Properly. Easy Repair, Very Common Problem. Bettyboop
P.S. THE PROBLEM ALSO WORKS IN REVERSE, IF SWITCH IS OPEN ALL THE TIME, DRYER WON'T HEAT
