Default Need parts for an early 1960s westinghouse
Brand: Please select
Model Number: DCG30SW1
Age: More than 10 years

found a burnt terminal on the circut board near the timer.
prob is in the element circut, made contact and got element to fuction but the wire was getting hot so shut her down.

aparently contact points at the area of burn so perhaps the solution lies within a retrofit or find an entire top mount dryer contol.

wondering why the over heating circut perhaps thermal cutout?

so comes down to,

wheres the parts and why do you think the circuts getting hot?

Is the circuit board a junction box?

The most common reason for terminals over heating is a loose connection.

Because of the age of the dryer I don't have the parts breakdown for your model.

It is possible that the parts for your dryer are no longer available.

The best thing to do is to contact Westinghouse at Westinghouse
1-866-442-7873.

yes a junction box but in strict technical terms a circut board as it is a fiber type board interconecting the circuts of the dryer.
on this board are breaker points just like you find in an auto mobile when the dryer timer is moved to cycle the points contact and thats where the burn out ocured ,there is a rivet that holds one side of the points in place that was burned right off the fiber board.

I have decided to use this dryer as a parts donater for my late 40s westinghouse as they are about the same design except that the 40s model is a bit more simplistic.

the tech hasnt changed much from that period to even today so I will see what can be retro fit to a larger parts pool but for certain the motor is of a higher quality then todays units.

the rollers may be harder to find but it seems the parts pool of the period is quite extensive covering several decades as it is rollers in either dryer showed no significant wear.

the parts reserve for american apliances are huge for the 20th century but few people keep books that go back that far, in store houses are lots of parts that have sat for ages not to mention old repair mens garages.

one of the newest things is restoring old apliances lots of folks like the art deco look of the old stuff and alot of it had a great service record lasting years beyord expectation.

I was confused about the burn out as normally it would happen because of a variance in resistence as you stated a posible loose conection but even after jumping the burned area the hot lead to the heating element was still getting hot so i wasnt sure if the thermal cutouts could have an internal problem that could cause undo resistence.
as it is my solution is to eliminate the problem by upgrading all things in the chain ie: the 1963 dryer becomes a doner for the 40s model that is much easier to work on.

i will utilize the guys at the repair shop one block away and grind away at this till im happy with a nice retro device I like the old stuff.
