Post Need help wiring replacement motor
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: DDE5300G
Age: More than 10 years

Hi Everyone,
I have an older model GE Dryer DDE5300G and I am replacing the motor but need help connecting the wires. My new motor (WE00X476) has terminal spots labeled 1, 3, 5, 7 and 8 and my dryer has five wires purple, black, blue, brown, and yellow. All the wiring information that I have found says black 1, purple 2, yellow 4, brown 6, and blue 5 however this doesn't correspond with the new motor. According to GE my replacement motor is the correct one for my dryer but I can't seem to figure out how to connect the wires. If anybody has any ideas I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks!

Best regards,
John

Did the motor come with any type of instruction sheet?

Where did you purchase the motor?

Are there any other number on the switch box on the motor?

Shelia -

Thanks for the reply. I was able to track down some instructions for the motor I got from the supplier and I believe I have hooked it up correctly but now the back of the dryer seems to get really hot when it is operating. It is very hot to the touch and I'm sure it would melt plastic. Do you think I could have hooked something up incorrectly or could this be another problem? Thanks for any opinions.

Best regards,
HomerJ

Check the dryer venting to make sure that it is clear.

You have two heating element in the dryer if the air flow is restricted the dryer will over heat.

Here is a link to your dryer model DDE5300G.

For a more detail parts list you will need the last two letters of your model number.
