Question Need Help Replacing Blower Wheel
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LE948WW1
Age: 5 - 10 years

I need help replacing a blower wheel. Opened everything up, when I went to remove the old wheel placed a pair of vice grips on the old wheel and then rotatated the motor shaft clockwise as supposed to. The old blower wheel completely broke off. So I am not left with the metal piece threaded onto the motor shaft where the wheel was. For the life of me I can not remove this piece from the shaft to screw on the new wheel. I have tried WD40, heating it up, vice grips, plyer everything!! It seems to be completely fused to the motor shaft. What can I do to screw it off, cut it off anything to get the new blower wheel on. This is such a simple job that has turned into a complete nightmare!! Please help! It is driving me CRAZY!! I am attaching a picture to show you what I have going on!!

A while back I posted a note how to take the blower wheel off in 10-12 seconds
every time.
All you need is a good pair of flat jaw real channel locs(pliers), a good pair of real vise grips, and a medium hammer.
lock the vise grips on motor shaftright next to belt pulley/with the adjusting knob of the vise grips toward the right dryer sidewall, take the channel locs adjust them
about1" wide, and place the plyers on the square plastic nut on motor side of blower wheel. now grip the plyers very tight with left hand, and strike the handle of the vise grips real hard 2-3 times and wheel is loose every time.

Now if you break the blower off trying some half baked method, clamp vise grips on both ends and strike with a hammer2-3 times and the shiny part that used to be wheel will also be off.
Now I've done this a couple thousand times, and it has worked every time with out damaging any parts. Betty Boop

Which way are you hitting it? you know it has left hand thread ? are you hitting it to the right? the oppisite of loosening a normal bolt. If you are hitting it to the left you are tightening it.Betty Boop

Hitting the vice grips quick & hard is what it takes. Are you hitting the vise grips to the right on the belt pully end while holding the bloower end ?

Have you tried penetrating oil, leave it on overnight and give it a try the next day. WD40 is more or less useless.

Try clockwise if you can get it to move a millimeter, it will then come off counterclockwise. You have to break the seize.

After that all I can think of is pull out the Dremel, put on a cutting disk, cut down to where the treads start and force it apart. Unless you are very careful there is a good chance the threads will get damaged.

Could try a nut splitter but they usually work best with hardened steel which you will not have.

ok so I finally brought in some help. Had a friend come over this evening(he is an aircraft mechanic, so I figured he had to know somthing about a small motor like this). The only way for him to really get a grip on it was to remove the motor and finally with him on one end and me on the other WE GOT IT OFF, AND THE DRYER IT FINALLY FIXED!!!! Thank you so much for all of your help and advice, this has been one of those things that drove me crazy! and feels good to finally have it done.
