I took the dryer apart cleaned everything even replaced the 2 wire thermostat. took drum out and turned on dryer to watch everything work, gas would lite then go out a couple minutes later . put back together . the flame sensor checked out good also. I thing the gas we are smelling is when the flame goes out and is trying to re lite. what should i replace next, maybee the 4 wire thermostat and the two gas valves. any help would be great, thanks

My first question is do you only smell gas when the dryers is in operation? If so replace the ignitor. If not, then check all the gas lines, where there are unions. You can use a sponge with soapy water, so you can have suds. So if there is a leak at a joint, it will buble up. You can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

tom, thanks for the reply. we only smell gas while the dryer is running. somthing is causing the flame to go out, the ingnitor seemed to work when i had the front off of the dryer. Its takes over an hour to dry our clothes. there are no other gas leaks when the dryer is off. thanks, marc

Marc, replace the ignitor. What happens is the ignitor is getting weak, and it lets the gas out but it is to weak to light the flame sometimes. If you need me you can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
