I have a Maytag Performa. It started making a sound as if there was a bunch of change in the drum but of course there was not. I took it apart and found that the drum had worn through the "cloth like" gasket in the front that seals the drum against the front wall. The "gasket" was warn through and the sound was the drum rubbing. Do I just need to change that clothlike gasket as it seems like it'll just wear through it again. I was expecting something to suspend the front part of the drum in place but found nothing of the sort.

There should be a couple plastic strips and/or felt pads
Since you have it open I would check all the suspension/drive components and replace as required.

Also give it a good cleaning
