When you say that you checked all the parts that you mentioned, I assume you have a meter? You are right, about it being a pain. What I would do is unplug the dryer, and take the back of the control panel cover off, and jump out the start switch, and see if it works. You can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

It sounds like the run winding in the motor has failed.

The dryer is running on the start winding and when you release the start button the winding is taken out of the circuit and the dryer stops.

This will mean that the motor will have to be replaced.

Here is a link to the parts of your dryer model 11062972101.

Here is the motor.

If this kenmore is an elite model, and it has a control board, about 3"x6" with part # 8546229, the first sign it's going bad is the start button stops working, making you believe the motor is bad, the next thing to happen is, it will run but no heat, sometimes, and some times it will start all by it self in the middle of the night. I've worked on 2 of these in the past 6 months. I've ordered the part # 8546229 control board, only to have it too, go bad in 3-4 weeks,I have repaired a lot of kenmores, but these control board models, I can't deal with!! I gurantee my work, and I have to eat the last expensive board I bought, but no more.
