My Electric Dryer Breaks High Limit Thermostats Brand: Whirlpool Model Number: LER4634DQ1 Age: More than 10 years THank you in advance for any help you can provide. My Whirlpool dryer is 9-11 years old. About 2 weeks ago, it stopped heating. I found an open circuit in the 250F high limit thermostat that is approximately 20"(?) downstream of the coil. The part that came with the dryer looked like a ceramic block. I have replaced it twice with a bi-metallic switch that comes with part number PS334299. THe dryer will work fine for about five days and then the bi-metallic switch with go open circuit. This has happened twice.
There is good airflow out of the dryer, the lint screen, dryer hose, and outlet are all clear.
I took apart the broken bi-metallic switch, and it doesn't look like it suffered any electrical damage.
Is there another cycling switch that is not working that is causing this one to fail?
When this bi-metallic switch is installed, it leaves little slit gaps to the dryer plenum. Is hot air escaping and damaging the outside of the bi-metallic switch so it eventually breaks? I am lost and would appreciate any help? Thank you. |
