Here is a link to parts
Maytag MDE9606AYW

It does sound like your motor is overheating, it has an internal thermal cutout which can take quite awhile to reset

Turn your drum by hand, it should turn fairly easily.

Open the unit up and give it a good cleaning, the cooling vents on the motor may be clogged solid. Also check rollers and idler

With the belt off spin the motor shaft it should spin easily.

Clean and check you vent system

Make sure you have a strong exhaust from the dryer.

If you cannot find any external reason why the motor is overheating, it will have to be replaced.

Then you have to decide, is it worth putting that much money into a repair or would you be better off buying a new unit. I would only install a new motor if the rest of the dryer is in very good shape. Next to go would probably be the timer or the heater.

If you do decide to replace the unit. I would recommend you look at a dryer which is close to the one you have
re: mechanical timer, roller support at the back of the drum
Stay away from digital printed circuit board controls and fancy mostly unnecessary options.

Good luck
There is a very good chance that the motor is OK
