Default Maytag stack Dryer problem and parts please.
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MLG31PCBWWC
Age: 5 - 10 years

I got 5 years old Maytag stack dryer and has broken down right now.

Part 1) A dryer won't start with out of order message.

I read error message and it says "Exhaust Probe Fault".

What does it mean and how do I fix it? Please explain to me as much as

detail you can.

Part 2) I cannot use two dryers because of broken door catch.

There is door catch attached by rivet side of door so that it holds door.

What kind of tool do I need to take broken door catach out and install

new one? I thought I need screw driver, but its't not screw.

Any help will be appreciated.

It sound like the exhaust probe may have sensed an over heating condition.

Check the vent to make sure it is not blocked.

Can you please supply your model number?

It should be a tag with the serial number in the opening of the dryer where the door closes.

If the latch is riveted on you will likely have to use a drill to remove it.

1) This is model and serial # - MLG31PCAWW
20846773AT

I checked vent, but nothing blocked.

I turned off power and back on, but it still say out of order.

What other possibilities? and do you know how to reset the program?

or how to reset the error code?

2) I attach the little picture which is dryer door.

Number 3 is door latch and 2 is rivet. I think the size is 5/32 x 1/4'.

Door latch is broken so that the door is not closed.

So you say use drill bit to remove it? and use riveter to install a new rivet?

I find a riveter at Sears, but it seems like bigger than I thought. (but cheap)

Anyway, I will try tomorrow.

If you do not mind, please advise me as much as detail you can.

Thanks a lot.

You will have to check the heating circuit. This would include anything in the heating circuit.

For programing of the dryer you should refer to your owners manual.

You are right the rivet is a 5/32 and you will have to drill the old one out and use a pop rivet gut to install the new one.

Problem solved. I cleaned all the part, vent, lint....and left it for 2 days.

Yesterday, I turned it on and it just worked as normal.

But, I am still stuck in chanign door latch. I have no idea how to take

old latch out. I got the drill bit, size was 5/32 and and made hole inside

of the old latch, but it did not come out. Should I take front panel out?

Thanks.

Run your drill back and forth in side the hole you drilled OR run a slightly larger drill through it. Don't go too far
Your rivet is basically a hollow tube with a washer attached to one end (outside) with a rod to compress the back side of the tube. The rod breaks off with the pop riveter.
You've drilled the rod out but some of the tube is still holding the washer unit and back together

Since the latch is already messed up you could cut the head off the rivet with a mototool/dremel. This is what I usually do because quite often when you drill through the rivet just starts to spin in the hole.

I have an 11 year old maytag dryer (stacked) model # se1000. Attempt to start results in a motor hum for about 30 secs. then nothing.
Partial tear-down reveals,.............cannot turn the motor,(appears jammed) the drum turns clockwise with slipping belt...Cannot turn counter clockwise.
Is there any mechanism that stops the motor from rotating when the unit is shut-down?
All this is down by feel, since I have not completely dis-assembled the unit. but took it apart enough to get my hand onto the motor shaft,(I think).
The dryer fan turns easily. and the unit will hum after a cool-down period of a few minutes. I did not allow the hum to continue but terminated the second start attempts.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
