Post Maytag Performa will not start
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: PDET910AYW
Age: 1 - 4 years

We just purchased our Performa in April of 2006.It is out of warranty now.I have never had a problem with the dryer in anyway. This morning I dried some clothes and it did fine. When I started the second load,it wouldn't start at all.It does seem to make a buzzing noise when I push the button in to start it.The circuit breaker if fine and the plug is fine,it is something in the dryer. Thanks for any help you can give.

Here is a link to a service manual
http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/16026315.pdf
And here is a link to the wiring diagram
http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/16027521.pdf

How do you know that the plug is good and has 240 volts?
Did you measure it with a meter?

Even if the breaker looks good I would still turn it off/on a couple times, slowly.

The following applies if the buzzing sound is coming from the motor

Try revolving the drum by hand
It should be fairly easy
If it is
Hold the door switch closed
Hit the start switch
Rotate the drum in the correct direction
If it starts your start winding in the motor is probably shot

Be careful you do not want scraped knuckles etc., if the drum does start revolving

Thanks for the info.We tested everything last night to make sure all the power is right and we tried to start the motor on our own,but it didnt work. The buzzing noise is coming from the knob that you select the time and push in to start.Do you happen to have any other ideas on what it might be?Thank you

Question still not working

Thanks for the info.We made sure last night that there was full power going to the dryer and we tried to start the motor by hand and got nothing. The light buzzing(kind of a popping )noise is coming from the button where we select the time and push it in to turn it on.Is there anymore advise I would be very grateful.Thank you.

I would open up the control console and take a look, you may get lucky and see something obvious. I would shut power FF to the dryer while doing this just to be safe.

Also if you can and if it looks safe to do, turn power on and give it a try.
May help narrow down the problem part
