Default Maytag Performa Dryer will not start
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: 53-3465 "REL"
Age: 5 - 10 years

My dryer will not start. I have checked the circut breaker, good. Checked voltage at the plug, good, 125V on each leg, 250 overall.

I checked the door switch. It works, when door is closed the circut closes.

Have tried to start with the tempurature setting on delicate, fluff and regular. No start.

Have also tried with press care off and on.

Have tried to start in the Auto Dry regular, Auto dry Perm Press and Time dry air fluff. No joy.

What do I check next?

Oz

Hello Mike
Long time no talk at

Next would be the Thermal Fuse
Could find no info on this model number. They usually start with 3 letters re: LDE or MDE or some other combo

Here is alink to 3 pages of sevice manuals from Maytag you may be able to find your unit here
Free Appliance Repair Forum - Downloads

PS: Usually a blown Thermal Fuse is due to a dirty or malfunctioning vent.
Though I have heard Maytags are bad for loose blower wheels

No continuity across the fuse. think it is blown, dryer was loaded up with lint. Would this fuse shut everything down???

Yes it will shut the unit down, usually kills everything except the timer in Timed Dry mode. In any case all thermostats/thermal cutouts should be 0 ohms at room temp.

If the dryer is full of lint your vent system is probablly a mess also.
Give it a good clean and check. Make sure the vents open fully outside with the dryer on.
