Angry Maytag Neptune MAH5500 Washer - Noisy Spin Cycle
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MAH5500
Age: 5 - 10 years

I bought my Maytag Neptune MAH5500 Washer/Dryer Combo new in 2003. Since, I have had recalls on both machines and have had so many drain pump assemblies that it is rediculous! Now my washer, that is supposed to be known for being super quiet, sounds like a MAC truck! Pardon the pun but seriously, it sounds fine when running through the wash and rinse cycles but once it hits the spin, it gets outrageously loud - a real ear piercing whirring. This happens whether the machine is in "Max Extract" mode or not. The machine functions properly, it's just that sound - what could it be?

Thanx in advance,
~Ling

Is there any scrapping sounds in the wash cycle?

It sounds like the tub bearing may be going.

Take the rear cover of and see it you can see bearing fillings.

Here is a link to your washer model mah5500.
