Default Maytag Neptune Dryer Drum Cracked
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDE9700AYW
Age: 1 - 4 years

Have a fairly new neptune that the drum cracked and a piece broke off. Is this going to be an easy fix or should just hire someone? Also does any one know if there is a place to purchase the actually drum or do you have to purchase Assy drum wrapper?
Thanks

Amazing, I have the same dryer and the drum also cracked.
I am atempting to take it out and have it welded today.

Maytag has pretty much told me "tough luck"
It will be the last maytag product in my house.

This is not an easy fix. The part # is 35001130. I would hire someone on this one. My questions is did you call a Authorized Maytag service company. Like Sears, or some one in your area, and see what the warranty is on the drum. I would talk to someone on this from Maytag. This should not have happened, You might be able to get the part for nothing, and just pay labor. It is worth the phone call. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Thumbs down

I saw this identical problem last week on a service call. The stainless drum cracked at the seam and my customer needs a new drum. I told my customer to call the call centre for a concession for this should NEVER happen but it looks like they didn't get anywhere. Its pathetic the junk out there on the market. All show and no go.

That's the sad thing about Maytag, use to be many years ago when I was just starting as a service tech Maytag made an expensive, but very good quality product. This made a very good name for the company and people felt they were getting a good value for the additional cost.

Anymore all Maytag is doing is letting this name sell their products, they maintained the higher prices, but tossed the old fashioned quality that once gave them that good name right out the window. That's just too bad, particularly for the people who still remember when Maytag made good quality products once upon a time.

I took mine out yesterday and had it welded.
I just put it back in.
I'll let you know how it went after I test it out.

so far so good,
Dryer is running. still makes a bumping noise but now its from the weld not the break. I think it will be fine for a while.
Even if it doesn't last forever I still bought a few more years.

I talked to maytag again and they told me the drum was covered but not the service. so I asked, OK where can I get the drum I'll do the work myself.
They said sorry you must use one of "our" service people.
I told her to pound sand.

PS the weld cost $15
