Default Maytag Gas Dryer not FULLy heating up
Brand: Please select
Model Number: MCG8000awq
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have just moved into my new condo
the condo had nice Maytag appliances.

The dryer being the really tall Neptune DC, with the steam upper cabinet.

But the dryer wont dry...it runs forever, you can feel warm, but NOT hot enough to dry the clothes.

Anyone have any experience working on the Maytag Neptune DC (drying center)

I think its the coils, any help with replacing these coils is greatly appreciated.

-Tuner!

problem fixed. cleaned the dirty inside and replaced the gas ignitor coils ($17 part).

on the Neptune DC the controls must come off first.

Open top door, remove the 3 bolts holding control, and slide off.

I made the mistake and started taking the side skins off ...the bottom torx bit

remove 3 connectors behind the controls , careful the control board is delicate.

Once i removed the control, a big parst guide/electrical schematic was inside (folded like a map)

the front cover can now be pulled off, us a torx bit and remove bolts.
the front cover comes off with the lower dryer door and side water container

At this point id recommend cleaning the inside, mine was filthy with lint

access the gas valve on the lower-left. replacement of coils is super easy

Just sharing...

Default Neptune Dryer Tip

My dryer stopped heating up a couple days ago and I really appreciate you sharing this information. Once I have the lower front panel removed, there is an assembly in the lower left that you refer to but I have no idea what the various components are, how to verify they're good or how to swap them out. Looking at the trouble shooting guide, it speaks of:

- flame sensor
- igniter
- booster coil
- holding coil
- secondary coil
- radiant sensor
- etc.

as all parts of the assembly, but does not show a diagram of the assembly to indicate which parts these are.

If you can share any further detail, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks again.

Default Neptune Dryer Tip

Thanks for all the help! Passing it forward for future readers . . .

After reviewing the symptoms on the trouble shooting guide (that was folded inside the panel and visible only after removing the control panel), it pointed to a bad igniter. It was difficult to see this part since its halfway back into the exhaust cylinder but once I did, I noticed the igniter had a burn spot with a hairline crack. I called Maytag to get the actual part number and contact info for some local parts warehouses. Purchased a new igniter and everything works great now. The difficulty was in figuring out how to remove the mounting screw that holds the igniter onto its bracket since it resides inside the cylinder. I finally was able to access this screw by first removing a black plastic assembly that was mounted outside the cylinder. This exposes an opening that allowed me to get a nut driver on the igniter mounting screw and remove it. I also had to remove some of the torx bolts from the left side panel to give me enough room to even maneuver. Lastly, it helped tremendously to have a very bright work light to fully illuminate the inside area so you can see what you are doing. And of course - remember to have both the gas off and electrical cord unplugged when doing this work.
