Smile Maytag Dryer - won't start
Brand: Maytag
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi - I have a maytag dryer (came with the house and is definitely over 5 years old and I'm thinking its around 10ish -if not more). I went to use my dryer and when I push the button to start it it makes a buzzing/whiney nose and the motor seems like it wants to turn over, but can't.(only makes the buzzing/whining sound) I'm thinking the motor blew.....does it sound like it?

any thoughts super appreciated!!

If a loud hum=bad motor, probably drawing mor than 15 amps. To confirm, tape door switch closed and push start button and rotate drum, one way or the other, if drum now turns, you have a bad start winding in motor.

Thanks App Guy!!!

I did what you suggested and it turned on - is that part expensive and how difficult is it to install?

About $130 retail. Go to partselect.com for assemply info. Hardest part is getting the spring clips off motor, just use a big flat bladed scewdriver.
