Default Maytag dryer starting problem

Sometimes the dryer will not start. If I open the door, hold the door switch in and turn the drum while pressing the PTS button, it will start. There is a buzzing noise when the button is pressed and an odor of hot electrics (although I do not see any burnt wiring). Is this the motor going bad or could it be the PTS switch? How can I be sure which part to replace? Also, I initially thought that the drum was "binding" (not turning freely) since I could raise the front of it. I added additional plastic shims under the front glides to "raise" the front of the drum. After doing this, the dryer worked for another 3-4 loads before not starting again. How thick are the plastic glides supossed to be? I read elsewhere about a link to downloadable repair instructions. Could you give me the link? Thanks in advance for your help.

If the drum is binding the motor would hum.

The push to start switch is not likely your problem.

The push to start switch is just a momentary contact switch which mean it allows power to flow for a short time to the motor to get it started after that it is out of the circuit.

It could be that your glides are worn.

The glides are about a 1/8 of an inch thick.

Here is what they look like.

Here is a link to your dryer model MDE9316AYW.
