Default Maytag dryer squealing noise
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDE7600AYW
Age: 1 - 4 years

My dryer has started to make a squealing noise similar to what a car engine makes when a drive belt is loose. I have read other postings in other repair forums that point to the idler pulley wheel and bearing. There are others that say it could be the front support glides. Is there a way to tell other than replacing the parts one by one?

I seriously doubt it would be the front glides. What you need to do is replace the 2 rollers the idler pully and belt. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at www.appl;ianceeducator.com Tom

Tom, Thanks! I have ordered the idler pulley but not the belt and rollers. It's probably best to do them all at the same time since I will be in there. I'll order those as well. Thanks again!

I replaced the idler pulley and that fixed the problem! It runs as good as new. I didn't replace the rollers so i hope their ok for a while at least.

What a great web site. The noise on my MDE7600AYW was unbearable. I looked at the web site and saw the recommendations. It was the right rear drum roller which has a rubber coating around the outside. I spayed it with WD-40. I did not take anything apart except to remove the front panal by removing the 4 door screws. It fixed the problem. Noise totally gone. I may need a new drum roller sometime in the future, but for now I saved about $ 20.00 for the part and saved my ears. GREAT WEB SITE!!!
