Default Maytag dryer slight gas smell inside
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDG8000BWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

My wife started smelling gas in the laundry room. She called the gas co. out and the bottom line is that after replacing the flex tube there is no leak outside the dryer, per the gas co.

When the detector is placed near a seam of the dryer, the gas detector detects gas.

I opened the unit. There is a 2' pipe leading from the flex tube to a brass L fitting inside. I sprayed soapy watter on both connections of the brass fitting and saw nothing. The brass fitting leads to an electronically controlled valve that may be the problem but I don't want to cover it with soapy water.

When the gas is turned back on there is a slight gas smell inside the dryer. Barely noticeable.

How to test / troubleshoot further? Should I / can I just replace the electronic valve?

thanks!

Sorry we do not give advise on gas repairs do to safety concerns.

You should shut the gas off to the dryer and have a technician look at it.
