Post Maytag Dryer Question
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDET446AYW
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi, I went to use my dryer on Easter to tumble a shirt I was planning on wearing and it would not start. The lights on the display were on and there was an audible mechanical click when I pushed the start button, but the dryer just kind of sat there. I checked the breaker and the power cord connections and every thing there was fine.

I finally got around to taking it apart yesterday and checked all of the electronic components with my multimeter and have narrowed it down to two things:

1: The motor is supposed to show 2 ohms on the multimeter and it is showing around 0

2: The thermal fuse is supposed to show less than 1 ohm and is showing infinity.

I am leaning towards thinking that it is the thermal fuse because all of the codes that popped up when I ran the diagnostics mode referenced that the dryer had not been heating properly. This may not be enough info for anyone to help, but I thought I would give it a try. I am kind of a dummy as far as this stuff goes, but any help would be appreciated.

Here is what I would do. I would check the thermal fuse that is located on the heater housing. I bet that is your problem. It usually is. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Default Kenmore Ultra Fabric Care HD 80 series

I have a Kenmore dryer, and I think the thermal fuse is toast. Problem is, I've heard it is on the side of the heating element can, toward the back.

My problem is, the back of my dryer appears to be spot welded on. How do I get to it?

Is there anywhere online that I can find pictures of it in place, and showing how to get to it?

I need a model # first, and I could send you a picture from my web site, and directions on how to replace. Also tell me why you think your thermal fuse is toast. I just don't know how to send pictures from this site. You can buy the part from these good people, I send people here all the time from my website to buy parts. My web site is ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Forgot to tell you why I think it is the thermal shut-off fuse. The sryer was full of lint, and now when you push the start button, absolutely nothing happens. Like a blown fuse.

Besides, the other alternative is a new motor, and the fuse is a cheaper first step.
