Default Maytag Dryer, No Start
Brand: Maytag
Age: 5 - 10 years

Maytag dryer won't start when the button is pushed. Had done this before and started after I pulled the plug and let it sit awhile. Now it will make a noise for a split second then nothing. Not the door switch, vent not clogged. Sounds like a reset for an overload but is not overloaded or hot. Noise comes from upper right top rear.

A Model Number would help
Gas? Electric?
Also what kind on noise.

Could be a bad connection arcing, I think your power cord comes in there.
Open up the control console and take a look
Remember to unplug the unit when doing this

I should have mentioned: Maytag Electric dryer
Model # SDE3606AYW

No odd smell or electrical smell.

Makes a noise for a split second like "AAAAK" when the button is pushed. Not an electrical arc type noise.

Default Sparks came flying...ouch

I moved the dryer to clean out behind it and take off the panel. I plugged it in (panel was still on) and hit the start button. It started but sparks flew out about three inches from the back panel where the power cord enters the dryer. Pulled the plug. Didn't take the panel off yet. Why the sparks?

The terminal block behind the panel where the cord is attached may be melted and you have wires shorting out in there.

With the cord unplugged remove the panel and see what it looks like in there. If it looks burned or melted then the block and any damaged wire would need to be replaced.

I am having the same issue with 2 Kenmore models 110.82836100. Everything looked good behind the rear panel. Tried new fuse links for grins n giggles no go. They have been working intermittently for about a week, now both completely dead. There is power to the outlet, start switches seem to work fine. Seem very odd to have two go out at the same time.

So, you have two electric kenmore dryers that were working intermittently and now they will not turn on all? The tumbler is not turning, no heat, and no lights on the control panel either?

Here is the parts breakdown includes a wiring diagram
Maytag SDE3606AYW

And here is the tech sheet
http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...TDL-0072-B.pdf

Could be the terminal block but usually you would not have to push the start button to get a failure.
Open it up and take a look should not be hard to find since you had an arc and spark. Hopefully it left a nice weld mark.

Did you use a voltmeter to check the power?
You not only need 220 volts between L1/L2, you also need 120 volts between L1/Neutral and L2/Neutral.

Also I would like to suggest you start your own thread using POST NEW TOPIC as your Model and problem is different than mikenic's.
