Default Maytag dryer need some help
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: PYE2000AYW
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Maytag performa dryer that has been taking at least 3 cycles to dry the clothes. Last night I opened up the top to view the heating coil. I noticed the coil would heat up for about three minutes then I'd hear a click sound and it would stop heating. After a minute or so it would click then turn red again , so the element is heating up intermittently Is this normal? The coil was replaced just over a year ago and it did not help much so I'm thinking the problem lies somewhere else. Any tips would be appreciated , thanks!

The click sound you here is the cycling thermostat turning on and off. The element should cycle.

It maybe short cycling or cycling on and off to often. This would add time to how long it take to dry a load of cloths.

Time to check the dryer vent to make sure it's not kinked off behind the dryer or plugged with lint.

Then you need to take the dryer apart and check for lint build up around the fan blower wheel.

The vent is pretty much at a 90 degree angle coming off the back , is this okay? in the meantime , I'll check the vent for clogs. Also , where would I locate the fan blower?

That is ok, just make sure it's not plugged with lint.

You will have to disconnect the power to the dryer first. Then remove the front of the dryer. Just taking a quick look at the diagram for your dryer it looks like the front is held on with two screws that are located towards the bottom corners.

You lint filter goes inside the front under the dryer door. The housing that holds the lint filter needs to be cleaned after you remove the front. That part of the lint filter house connects to the blower fan.
