Default Maytag Dryer has blown fuse twice
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: PYE4500AYW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Thermal Fuse had blown so I ordered a thermal fuse replacement kit. Took the front panel off and vacuumed out all the lint from every possible repository and thoroughly cleaned the exhaust all the way outside. Replaced the thermal fuse and the high limit thermostat and reassembled. Wife ran one load on high temp and the fuse blew again. Also, there was black soot inside the top panel above the heating element. I replaced the thermal fuse with the gas high limit fuse that came with the kit (they look the same). Dryer works again but I am afraid of running it on high temp. I switched the temp to no heat and it seems to work ok. What could be causing the fuse to blow repeatedly?

The reason that the thermao fuse is blowing is because you need to take the front off the dryer, and down in the bottom where the blower housing is, there is a ton of lint, perventing air flow accross the element. If you need me you can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Unhappy Maytag dryer keeps blowing thermal fuse.

Took dryer completely apart and all lint was removed from inside and venting. Put new thermostat and fuse in. The air flow was really strong coming out of the house and I was optimistic however it blew the fuse again after 1 1/2 loads. The dryer was set to low and the heating element got really hot. Any ideas? Do I need a new heating element? This dryer was installed in 2003.

If you took the front off, and cleand the blower housing that is attached to the front, then you must have a clogged vent to the outside. If you want to check that, disconnect the vent from the dryer, and pull it away from the wall, and see if the dryer gets too hot. If not, then you need to clear the vent. I had a fellow on my website tell me he used a leaf blower to blow the vent out from the inside to the outside. He said, he had lint, all over is lawn. LOL Funny, but it worked. If you need me you can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Default All clean but still blows fuse

I tied half a bath towel to a rope and pulled it through the entire exhaust. There is no more lint in the system and the fuse still blew. I'm betting the element is bad and will replace it today along with the thermostat and fuse.
