Let me help you diagnose this. First turn the dryer on to heat. If the gas comes out, and then it will cycle off. Then the second time does the ignitor come on, and then you hear a click, and the ignitor shuts off, and no gas?. If this is so you need a new gas valve. If it does cycle off, and on, but just does not heat enough. I would venture to say that you have an air flow problem. Your vent outside is not totally clear, therefore the heat does not leave the dryer, and the unit, quickly cycles on and off. Hence the long time to dry. Let me know what you find, you can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

tom when i start the dryer the ignitor comes on the gas lights then burns for about 1 or 2 min then the gas goes off again this continues to happen during the dry cycle would the high limit thermostat cause this or boosting / holding coils

The high limit is cutting it off, because you have a kinked vent hose, or the vent is clogged. Take the vent off, and pull it away from the wall, and run it for a little, and you will see it will work fine. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
