Default Maytag Drier squeaking
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LDE 7600 ACL
Age: More than 10 years

I have an electric Maytag dryer that is squeaking. It seems to be worse at the beginning of the cycle. I don't know what could be causing the squeak. Belt, bearings, bushings. The dryer works good, so I hate to replace it over a little noise, but my wife says either the squeak goes, or the dryer does.

HELP

Thank you.
Charlie

Replace the motor. The bearings have become dry. When was the last time you opened the cabinet and gained full access to the motor. You will most likely find that the motor is covered in lint. This accumulation of lint not only acts as a blanket which overheats your motor, but it drys your motor out. Motor replacement is easy and very inexpensive.

Here is a link to your dryer
Maytag LDE7600ACL Parts List

You will have to open it up
When motor bearings go it is usually a squeal because the motor rotates at high revs
Odds are pretty good that your squeak is one of the support rollers at the back
Remove them from the shafts and give them and the shafts a good cleaning , check them for wear and wobble on the shaft. If there is any I would replace them. The support shafts are usually OK since you are running an softer oilite bearing on them, the bearings wear first.

Since you have it open give it a good cleaning and check your belt.
Clean the drum where the belt rides.
Isopropyl alcohol works as a good cleaning solvent it does not leave a residue.
Do not go crazy with oil as it will gunk up with lint

It mostly likely is not the motor. There are rollers that the drum glides on, that would probably be you problem. If you are going to take the whole product apart, replace the belt, and idler pully too. If you want to check and see if the motor is noisy, which I doubt, just take the belt off, and turn the dryer on. If it sounds good, it is not the motor.
