Default Maytag drier never stops
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDE8000AYW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Our drier no longer shuts off. Heats well, tumbles, good air flow, clean vent. Have checked the Humidity sensor when in IntelliDry mode by lifting connector off the Electronic Control, no difference. Note that the failure to stop occurs in ALL modes.

Few things to note:
1-The Timer Motor does run, I hot wired it to 120vac and proved that.

2-The Timer Motor does not appear to be wired correctly, the wire shown on the schematic to the Brown terminal is actually landed on the Black terminal. My assumption here is that there was a service call years ago and the tech hot wired the timer rather than replacing the Electronic Control.

3-If I connect the timer motor as indicated on the schematic, the Brown wire sits at appr. 40 to 60 vac and the drier still runs forever. Even with the Blue (Humidity Sensor) wire disconnected from the Electronic Control.

4-Performed all the continuity checks on the Timer as per the repair manual. No failure points.

At this time I am assuming the Electronic Control is failed, and has been failed prior to this issue, AND the timer may very well be failed as well. I have ordered both and will try replacing them in that order. If the Electronic Control fixes the problems I will return the Timer for credit.

Just wanted to run this by y'all and see if you thought I was on track or way off base...

Thanks in advance...
Ray L.

It may be that the cycling thermostat has failed.

Does the timer advance if you use the timed cycle?

Here is a link to your dryer model MDE8000AYW.

No. The timer does not work in ANY cycle.
