Default Maytag Auto Dry - Resistor connection and Function Clarification

I have the same problem (auto dry not shutting off, but timed dry working) on an PYE2300AYW. I have checked the resistor and it measures fine (3.8k). I note howver that the resistor is connected to the timer between terminals R and N, not R and A as the schematic shows and according to the dialogue I find here. I too am having some difficulty deciphering the schematic/connection diagram. But according to what I can interpret, it looks like the resistor is mis-connected. Could this be a problem? Can anyone clarify?I also notice that the buzzer is open and it doesn't work.

THANKS

Hooked up this way Auto-dry does not do anything. It is the same as timed dry.

Did Auto-dry ever work??
Is there a white wire connected to N on the timer??
What if anything is connected to A??
Have you owned the unit since new??
Is there a chance that either you or someone else has changed the wiring??

As far as I know the resistor is there to drop the current from the 240 volts down to a low enough value so it does not blow the timer motor.
R is for resistor
A is for Auto
N is for Neutral

In Audo-dry the timer only advances when the thermostat shuts the heating coil off.

I got this unit used from a friend so I don't know if it ever worked. They didn't seem to know any different.
Yes there is a White wire connected to the N on the timer
Nothing is connected to the A terminal.
I understand your explanation of the dropping resistor and that makes sense to me.
I am tempted to reconnect the resistor as you and the schematic show. Do you know of any reason that this could be a mistake?

Thanks for your help.

I cannot see any problem connecting it as shown in the wiring diagram.
I would check to make sure all other connections on the timer are the same as shown, just in case they messed with something else.

Default Performa is working

Thanks Denman. I reconnected the resistor as you and the schematic suggested and it seems to be working now. I checked all the timer connections and they all reconciled except for the resistor connections. I also double checked the thermostat on the blower housing and it seemed to be OK.

THANKS AGAIN.
